This costume was created in 2012 as part of a Street Theatre module in my 2nd year of studying 3D Design. The costume is roughly 7 and a half foot tall, with the head resting on a swivel allowing it to rotate freely as the operator moves.
The head of the costume was carved from EPP foam, which was sanded, paper-mâchéd and painted. The costume's trunk was attached using interconnecting locks, which allowed the trunk to swing naturally. The elephant's ears also sway when the costume is in motion. The body was created using a rigid but flexible plastic, designed to fit an individual who was 6 foot or taller.
The project's theme was circus animals, and was completed in around 8 weeks.
